FAQ

Questions and answers

What does Wanner & Faust Rohrleitungsbau AG do?

We design, fabricate and install industrial piping systems in stainless steel, carbon steel, Hastelloy and PTFE-lined steel, complemented by metalwork such as gratings, walkways and frames. We are based in Pratteln near Basel and were founded in 1988.

Which industries do you work for?

Mainly for industry: chemical, pharma and biotech, food, and tank farms and mineral oil facilities. We also work for architects, planners and construction companies, and we carry out public contracts. We do not work for private individuals.

Do you also do heating or plumbing installations?

We do not do domestic installations for private individuals. We do build heat and steam networks, including for housing developments and public facilities.

Which area do you cover?

Our focus is the Basel region: Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft and the Fricktal, with short distances to Muttenz, Liestal, Allschwil, Reinach and Münchenstein. We also work in the rest of north-western Switzerland and in French-speaking Switzerland, for example in Geneva, Lausanne, Fribourg, Neuchâtel and Valais, and in Ticino by arrangement. We speak German and French.

Which materials do you work with?

Most often stainless steel 1.4301 (304) and 1.4404 (316L), carbon steel, Hastelloy alloys and PTFE-lined steel pipes. Also aluminium, copper and other alloys: we work with almost all metals. We weld using the TIG, MIG, MAG, stick (MMA) and orbital processes. The choice of material depends on the medium, pressure, temperature and hygiene requirements; we advise you on it.

Can you bend pipes?

Yes. In our workshop in Pratteln we bend pipes from DN 10 to DN 50 on our two tube bending machines. Bent pipes replace welded elbows: fewer welds, fewer possible points of failure.

Do you work with Geberit Mapress and Geberit Mepla?

Yes. We design and install lines with the Geberit Mapress press-fit system (stainless steel, carbon steel, copper) and with the Geberit Mepla multilayer pipe. Both systems are pressed cold, with no welding and no naked flame.

How does a project with you run?

Site visit and clarification of requirements, quotation, design, prefabrication in our workshop in Pratteln, installation on your plant, testing and handover with documentation. On request we then take on the maintenance.

Can you work while the plant is in operation?

Yes. Many of our jobs take place during ongoing operation or in shutdowns. We plan the work with your operations team, comply with the site's safety and access rules and minimise the interruption to your production.

What documentation do you supply once the work is complete?

You define the scope when ordering, on our documentation form. The options are: material certificates to EN 10204 (3.1 / 3.2), weld logs, spool numbers for traceability, isometrics and as-built drawings, photographic documentation, dye penetrant testing (PT), borescope inspection, pressure test and leak test reports, and the record of pickling and passivation.

How much does industrial piping cost?

That depends on the material, nominal diameter, number of metres, accessibility and documentation effort. Stainless steel and special materials such as Hastelloy are considerably more expensive than carbon steel. After a site visit we prepare a binding quotation.

How big is your company?

We are a team of 20 to 30 people with our own workshop in Pratteln. For large projects we reinforce the team with experienced temporary staff.
